Madam Isata Marah has publicly expressed her deep appreciation and commitment to national service following her appointment as the new Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT).

Taking to social media to announce the news to family and friends, Marah struck a tone of humility and readiness for the high-profile role.

“It is with immense gratitude, appreciation and humility that I come to you all this morning to share my appointment,” she wrote. “I am truly honoured and confident that I will do my utmost in ensuring that I meet and exceed his expectations for the good of our nation. His Excellency Sir.. I thank you.”

The official appointment letter, dated February 16, 2026, and signed by the Secretary to the President, Barba B. Fortune, confirmed that President Julius Maada Bio tapped Marah for the position in accordance with Section 8 (3) of the NASSIT Act of 2001.

As the incoming Chairman, Marah will be tasked with overseeing the strategic direction of the country’s primary pension and social security fund, a critical pillar of Sierra Leone’s social safety net.

Before she can officially assume her duties and receive her formal terms of appointment, Marah must clear a final legislative hurdle. The State House directive requires her to appear before the Committee on Appointments and the Public Service of Parliament for vetting and approval.
