The Sierra Leone Para-Olympic Committee, led by President Unisa Deen Kargbo, officially presented a bronze medal to the National Sports Authority (NSA) on Thursday, February 26, 2026.

The medal was won by Elizabeth Kargbo, who secured a podium finish in the T47 Women’s Javelin at the prestigious Fazza International Para Championship 2026 in Dubai.

President Kargbo emphasized that this championship serves as a critical milestone for Sierra Leone’s para-athletes. The event is part of the essential point-accumulation circuit required for qualification for two upcoming major global events: The 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the 2028 Olympic Games in the USA.

NSA Executive Director Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai extended his congratulations to Elizabeth Kargbo and the Committee. While acknowledging the financial constraints resulting from reduced budget allocations, Dr. Abdulai reaffirmed the NSA’s commitment to supporting the team.

“Sports is keeping the nation’s young people engaged,” Dr. Abdulai noted. “Despite current challenges, we will work to allocate resources to the Para Committee for upcoming national competitions.”

He concluded with a message of hope, urging the athletes to maintain their momentum and stay focused on their training, assuring them that the support system for sports in the country is set to improve.
