Orange Mobile Money Finance SL has officially partnered with Zenith Bank Sierra Leone Limited and Mastercard to launch the country’s first virtual payment card introduced by a mobile telecommunications company.
The new Orange Money Mastercard is designed to facilitate local and international digital transactions, allowing users to shop online, pay for digital subscriptions, and make global payments without the need for a physical bank card.
The initiative represents a significant step toward digital financial inclusion in Sierra Leone. According to Orange Money SL, fewer than 2% of adults in the country currently have access to a payment card capable of making online transactions.
By tying a virtual Mastercard directly to a user’s mobile money wallet, the partnership aims to bypass traditional banking barriers and grant a larger segment of the population access to the global internet economy.
How It Works
The service is exclusively hosted within the Orange Max it mobile application. To utilize the new financial tool, customers must:
- Download or update the Orange Max it app.
- Access the virtual Orange Money Mastercard feature within the interface.
- Fund transactions directly through their existing Orange Mobile Money balance.
The project was brought to market through a multi-agency collaboration featuring Orange Money SL, Zenith Bank, Mastercard, and the global payment processing platform Paymentology.
