Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah has said the Government of Sierra Leone, led by President Julius Maada Bio, “cannot be blackmailed” into taking actions it considers unconstitutional.

Bah made the remarks during an appearance on Truth Morning Devotion, addressing claims circulating among opposition supporters that international moral guarantors had recommended changes to the leadership of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL).

The Minister stated that Edmond Sylvester Alpha was duly appointed as Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman of the ECSL and that the position will remain unchanged.

“At no point did the guarantors call for a change in ECSL leadership,” Bah said. He added that the government remains committed to constitutional order and lawful reform processes.

The ECSL is the body responsible for conducting public elections and referenda in Sierra Leone.
