Sierra Leonean rapper, singer, and songwriter Benjamin Menelik George, popularly known as Drizilik, has recounted a near-fatal car accident that occurred shortly after a show in Waterloo in 2022, as he prepares to return to the town this Friday for a long-awaited performance.

In a statement shared publicly, Drizilik said he had just finished a rally and was too tired to drive home himself, so he allowed a friend to take over while he rested in the back seat. “Little did I know, I wasn’t the only one exhausted from all the moves we had made that day.

Less than 10 minutes into the journey home, the car hit the curb, somersaulted multiple times, and ended up on its roof,” he revealed.

Despite the severity of the crash, Drizilik confirmed that all three passengers survived with only minor scratches and no serious injuries. He expressed relief and gratitude, noting, “GOD SAVED OUR LIVES THAT DAY.”

In the statement, Drizilik admitted to fleeing the scene immediately after the accident to avoid being seen by family members or photographed by first responders and witnesses. He said his fear was driven by concern that his family, particularly his aunt, might learn of the crash before he had the chance to explain.

Four years later, Drizilik is returning to Waterloo, determined to make up for the long hiatus and deliver a memorable performance for his fans. “I’m returning to WATERLOO this Friday, determined to give my fans the show they deserve finally,” he said.

This marks a significant return for the artist, who has maintained a strong following in Sierra Leone and beyond, with fans eagerly anticipating his performance after a four-year absence from the town.
