Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, has introduced a new academic directive aimed at accommodating Muslim students and staff for weekly Jummah prayers on Fridays.
In a notice circulated to all Deans, Heads of Departments, and lecturers, the institution stated that, with immediate effect, no lectures, tests, examinations, or other official academic activities should be scheduled between 12:50 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. on Fridays.
The directive is intended to ensure that Muslim members of the academic community are given adequate time and space to observe Jummah prayers in line with their religious obligations.
College authorities have instructed all academic and administrative units to strictly comply with the new scheduling arrangement.
The policy reflects Fourah Bay College’s commitment to inclusivity, religious tolerance, and the protection of students’ and staff members’ rights within the University of Sierra Leone system.
