A young Sierra Leonean scholar, Alusine Turay, delivered his graduation speech in fluent Chinese calling for deeper friendship between Sierra Leone and China through education, employment, mutual respect, and people-to-people exchanges.
Born and raised in Sierra Leone, the graduate’s academic path reflects ambition and adaptability. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Sierra Leone, completed an online MBA from a U.S. university, and most recently obtained a Master’s Degree in International Chinese Education. His academic excellence was recognised when he graduated as Best International Student at his Chinese university and received multiple awards from institutions across China.
The speech itself was notable not only for linguistic mastery but for its message. By speaking in fluent Chinese, he demonstrated how language could build trust; connect cultures, and open doors for diplomatic, educational, and economic collaboration. His address urged stronger ties through shared learning opportunities, job creation, and sustained cultural exchange—an appeal that resonates as nations deepen bilateral partnerships.

This achievement is a vivid example of what Sierra Leone’s youth can accomplish on the global stage. It shows that with determination, strategic learning, and cross-cultural skills, young people can represent the nation with confidence and competence. His success sends a clear message to the next generation: local talent can thrive internationally and return value to the country through networks, knowledge, and opportunity.

Recognising and celebrating such accomplishments matters because they inspire others and spotlight the importance of multilingual education and international exposure. As Sierra Leone seeks to expand its global footprint, graduates who can navigate multiple cultures and languages will be invaluable in diplomacy, trade, education, and business.
Congratulations to this outstanding son of Sierra Leone. His journey is a source of national pride and a beacon for young people who aspire to compete and excel worldwide. May his success continue to open doors, build bridges, and create opportunities for others to follow. Sierra Leone is proud of you.
