Residents of Makeni have appealed to the Government of Sierra Leone to urgently rehabilitate the O.I.C Road, citing its deteriorating condition and the challenges it poses for commuters, motorists, schoolchildren, and residents.

According to community members, the road serves as a key access route to the O.I.C Technical and Vocational Institution and the MCA Primary and Secondary Schools, making it an important link for educational and community activities within the city.

Residents expressed concern that the poor condition of the road has resulted in frequent vehicle breakdowns, increased transportation costs, and significant inconvenience for both drivers and passengers. They noted that the situation worsens during the rainy season, when large sections of the road become muddy and difficult to navigate.

Community leaders and parents also raised concerns over the safety of schoolchildren and pedestrians who use the road daily, warning that its current state exposes residents, particularly students, to unnecessary risks.

“The road is in a very poor condition, and whenever it rains, it becomes extremely difficult for people to move freely. Our children use this road every day to access school, and their safety is a major concern,” a resident said.

The residents have called on the government, local authorities, and relevant agencies to prioritize the rehabilitation of the O.I.C Road, emphasizing its importance to education, transportation, and economic activities in the area.

They expressed hope that swift intervention would improve mobility, enhance safety, and support development within the community.
