Residents of Tongo Township in Kenema District have appealed to the Government of Sierra Leone and the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) to provide an operational vehicle for the Tongo Police Division, citing growing concerns over the impact of inadequate logistics on public safety.
Community members said the absence of a functional police vehicle is affecting the division’s ability to respond promptly to emergencies, carry out routine patrols, and effectively police communities under its jurisdiction.
According to residents, the situation is particularly challenging for remote communities that depend on the Tongo Police Division for emergency response and law enforcement services. They noted that the lack of reliable transportation limits officers’ ability to reach crime scenes quickly, conduct investigations, and maintain a visible security presence.
Residents described the provision of an operational vehicle as a critical investment in public safety, arguing that improved police mobility would enhance crime prevention efforts, strengthen collaboration with neighbouring police divisions, and support more effective community policing.
Community leaders and youth representatives have therefore called on the Government, the Sierra Leone Police, and development partners to respond urgently to the request by equipping the Tongo Police Division with the necessary transport resources.
They maintained that improving the division’s operational capacity would contribute to the protection of lives and property while reinforcing public confidence in law enforcement across Tongo and its surrounding communities.
