Dr. Ibrahim Bangura has emerged as the leading contender in an independent APC flagbearer opinion poll, securing 3,600 votes and opening a significant lead over other aspirants as the race toward the party’s 2028 presidential ticket gains momentum.
The poll, circulated on WhatsApp and updated after more than 10,000 votes were cast, places Dr. Bangura in first position with 3.6K votes. Former Vice President Chief Alhaji Samuel Sam Sumana follows in second place with 1.4K votes, while Ady Macauley Esq. and Bai Mahmoud Bangura are jointly ranked third and fourth with 1.3K votes each.
Sheikh Alhaji Mohamed O. Kamara occupies fifth place with 1.2K votes, while Dr. Richard Konteh is sixth with 458 votes. Yvonne Aki-Sawyer received 257 votes, Dr. Kaifala Marah 235, Chernor R.M. Bah 147, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara Esq. 119, and Osman Abdal Timbo Esq. 80 votes.
According to the update, a total of 10,359 votes had been recorded at the time of publication, with the poll still open for further participation.
The organizers described the exercise as an independent opinion poll intended to gauge public sentiment among participants and emphasized that it is not a scientific survey.
They noted that the results should not be interpreted as a predictor of the APC’s eventual flagbearer or the outcome of any future election.
Despite that disclaimer, the figures provide an indication of the current level of online engagement and support for the various aspirants within sections of the party’s support base.
Dr. Bangura’s commanding lead places him at the center of discussions surrounding the APC’s early preparations for the 2028 general elections.
Political observers say the poll reflects growing public interest in the party’s internal contest, even though formal flagbearer processes have not yet begun.
