First Lady of Sierra Leone, Fatima Maada Bio, has commended male parliamentarians whom she says have chosen inclusivity over ego in supporting greater participation of women in leadership.
In a message shared on social media, Mrs Bio expressed appreciation to what she described as the “strong men in Parliament” for recognizing the importance of women’s inclusion in national leadership and decision-making.
”Women are not charity; we are nation builders,” she stated.
The First Lady further argued that promoting women’s participation in leadership should not be viewed as an act of weakness or charity, but rather as an important pathway towards building a more inclusive society.
She also defended the principle of proportional representation (PR), describing it as a system that creates opportunities for broader inclusion in governance.
