Sierra Leone’s former Finance Minister, Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura, has expressed gratitude to President Julius Maada Bio and the public as he concludes more than three years in office.
In a farewell statement, Bangura said serving as Finance Minister was among the greatest honours of his professional career, reflecting on the government’s efforts to address difficult economic conditions during his tenure.
He credited the government’s economic team with working to restore economic stability, strengthen domestic revenue mobilisation, improve fiscal management and establish stronger foundations for long-term economic resilience.
Bangura also acknowledged the contribution of senior officials, professional and technical staff at the Ministry of Finance, saying their commitment and professionalism were central to the progress achieved during his tenure.
He extended his appreciation to development partners, government ministries, departments and agencies that supported the administration’s economic priorities.
The former minister also thanked Sierra Leoneans for what he described as their patience, support and resilience, emphasising that public service should ultimately remain focused on the interests of citizens.
As he leaves the ministry, Bangura said he would support his successor and assist with the transition where necessary.
He stressed that the new minister’s success would benefit the country, arguing that Sierra Leone’s economic progress should remain above individual personalities, positions and interests.
Bangura said he was leaving the Ministry of Finance with gratitude, humility and a sense of fulfilment, expressing confidence that the foundations strengthened during his tenure would continue contributing to the country’s economic development.
He also wished his successor and the ministry’s staff success as they continue managing the country’s economic affairs.
Bangura concluded his statement by thanking President Bio and offering prayers for the president and the Republic of Sierra Leone.
