Attorney General and Minister of Justice Alpha Sesay on Thursday, 13 August 2026, hosted the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Country Representative, Mr. Kunle Adeniyi, for discussions on justice, gender-based violence, reproductive rights and human rights in Sierra Leone.
The meeting focused on UNFPA’s ongoing work in Sierra Leone, particularly efforts to strengthen the national response to gender-based violence and promote health and reproductive rights.
Attorney General Sesay said the Office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice remains committed to strengthening the investigation and prosecution of gender-based violence cases while expanding access to justice for underserved communities.
The two sides also exchanged views on Sierra Leone’s ongoing constitutional review process, with particular emphasis on the importance of strengthening human rights protections, including those relating to women’s health and reproductive rights.
According to the Attorney General, the engagement provided an opportunity to explore areas where the mandates of the Government and UNFPA can complement each other in advancing justice, equality and human rights.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to closer collaboration, particularly in strengthening justice and protection mechanisms for women and vulnerable communities across Sierra Leone.
