Auditor-General Abdul Aziz has urged 35 newly recruited personnel and interns at the Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL) to make integrity, accountability and professional excellence central to their work in safeguarding public resources.
Aziz made the call on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, as he opened a two-week induction programme for newly recruited personnel and interns at the Youyi Building in Freetown.
The induction cohort comprises 29 newly recruited ASSL staff, including auditors, procurement specialists and ICT officers, as well as six interns participating through the European Union Internship Scheme.
Addressing the inductees, Aziz highlighted the responsibility of an institution mandated to scrutinise the management and use of public funds.
He said public confidence in the Audit Service depends on the independence, objectivity and ethical conduct of its personnel, urging the new recruits to recognise the broader public interest underpinning their professional responsibilities.
“Integrity is the watchword of the ASSL,” Aziz stated, encouraging the inductees to consistently uphold ethical principles in the execution of their duties.
The Auditor-General also called on the new personnel to place the interests and welfare of Sierra Leoneans at the centre of their work.
He said effective public auditing should contribute to stronger governance and accountability while identifying opportunities to improve the delivery of public services.
Aziz further challenged the inductees to maintain high professional standards by approaching their duties with diligence, attention to detail and compliance with established professional requirements.
He encouraged them to seek guidance whenever necessary and make continuous professional development an integral part of their careers.
The two-week induction programme is designed to familiarise the new entrants with ASSL’s operational policies, institutional values, legal framework and mandate before they assume responsibilities within their respective divisions.
The programme is expected to equip the new personnel with the knowledge and understanding required to contribute effectively to the Audit Service’s work in promoting transparency, accountability and responsible management of public resources.
