Chief Minister Dr David Moinina Sengeh said members of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) will follow whatever decision President Julius Maada Bio makes regarding the party’s future leadership.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Sengeh wrote: “Yes, we’ll be 100% guided by whatever H.E. President Bio – Leader of SLPP, Father of Democracy & Human Capital Development.”
His statement comes amid ongoing discussions within the SLPP over who should emerge as the party’s next flagbearer.
Meanwhile, SLPP National Chairman Jimmy Batilo Songa has urged constituency chairmen to await a directive from President Julius Maada Bio on who should become the party’s next flagbearer.
Speaking in Bo, Batilo Songa said party members, as Christians, believe in following commandments, suggesting that President Bio would eventually present a name for them to follow.
He said that if President Bio brings a name to party members as a commandment, saying, “thou shalt be,” he, as National Chairman, would respond by saying, “thou shalt follow his way and follow the leader.”
Sengeh and Batilo Songa reinforce the expectation that President Bio’s position will play a significant role in determining the SLPP’s next flagbearer.
