The Freetown City Council (FCC) has called on residents to take greater responsibility for keeping the capital clean by adopting proper waste disposal practices and supporting the city’s ongoing sanitation efforts.
In a public appeal, the Council acknowledged the daily dedication and sacrifices of its sanitation teams in maintaining a clean environment but stressed that achieving a cleaner Freetown requires the active participation of every resident.
The FCC urged both motorists and pedestrians to refrain from littering, noting that indiscriminate disposal of waste undermines sanitation efforts and contributes to environmental pollution.
The Council also advised households to ensure that their waste is collected by FCC-registered waste service providers rather than being dumped on streets, road reserves, or behind roadblocks. Council stressed that proper waste management is essential to maintaining a healthy and orderly city.
According to the Council, collective action is critical to protecting public health, supporting sanitation workers, and sustaining the city’s environmental transformation agenda.
The FCC reaffirmed its commitment to improving sanitation across Freetown and encouraged all residents to play their part by adopting responsible waste disposal habits and working together to build a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable city.
