Sierra Leonean journalist Glorious Aminata Bangura, widely known to the public as “The GenZ Reporter,” has passed away following a severe illness.
Her death comes just days after a widespread public appeal was launched to help cover her mounting medical bills. Bangura had reportedly been seriously ill for several weeks and was receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Choithrams Hospital in Freetown.
Prior to her passing, a financial campaign circulated across social media indicating that her medical expenses had surpassed NLe 40,000. The situation placed significant financial strain on her family, prompting urgent calls for friends, colleagues, and the general public to assist with donations.
While the exact nature of Bangura’s illness was not disclosed in the public appeals, the news of her critical condition had mobilized supporters and the local journalism community to rally behind her. Tributes have already begun pouring in on social media, with platforms like the Hawanatu Konneh Network expressing heartbreak over the loss of the prominent young reporter.
