A High Court in Sierra Leone has issued an interim injunction restraining Osman Foday Yansaneh and Lansana Dumbuya from performing functions as executive members of the All People’s Congress (APC), according to a court order made on Thursday, August 27, 2026, following an ex parte application heard in the Judge’s Chambers.
AYV reports that the injunction prohibits Yansaneh and Dumbuya from holding themselves out as National Chairman and Leader and National Secretary General, respectively. The court order also bars them from holding or convening executive meetings, taking part in or superintending the affairs of the APC, and performing activities associated with the day-to-day running of the party.
The injunction will remain in force pending the hearing and determination of the application or further order of the Court. The Court warned that disobedience could result in contempt proceedings, potentially leading to imprisonment, a fine, or seizure of assets.
The development follows a period of uncertainty over the APC’s leadership structure. In February 2026, the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) extended the tenure of the APC executive by six months under Section 39(5) of the Political Parties Act 2022.
The Commission had also directed that if the party failed to hold a National Delegates’ Conference within that period, the APC Leader in Parliament together with five other Members of Parliament would take over party management.
However, with the six-month extension expiring around August 18, 2026, and the National Delegates’ Conference yet to be held, a party member filed a court challenge against both the PPRC and the APC regarding the second directive.
In response, the PPRC announced on August 17, 2026, that it was “constrained to effect its second directive” and that the “status quo shall remain the same pending the determination of the matter in court,” allowing current executive members to continue running party affairs.
The current injunction now imposes further legal restrictions on the party’s leadership as the court proceedings continue. More details to follow as the legal proceedings unfold.
