Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mohammed Rahman Swaray, has represented President Julius Maada Bio at the African Union (AU) Extraordinary Summit on Peace and Security in Luanda, Angola.
Swaray said he used his intervention at the summit to reaffirm Sierra Leone’s support for stronger conflict prevention mechanisms, effective early warning systems and predictable financing for African-led peace initiatives.
Drawing on Sierra Leone’s experience in peacebuilding, the Foreign Affairs Minister highlighted President Bio’s emphasis on prevention before intervention as a key approach to addressing conflicts on the continent.
He stressed the importance of dialogue, strong and effective institutions, as well as timely action in preventing conflicts and sustaining peace across Africa.
According to Swaray, Sierra Leone remains committed to contributing to and advancing Africa’s collective peace and security agenda.
The summit brings together African leaders and senior government officials to deliberate on peace and security challenges facing the continent and explore stronger African-led mechanisms for conflict prevention and resolution.
