Former President of Sierra Leone, Dr Ernest Bai Koroma, has called for unity and collective action, pledging to work openly with everyone following his return to the country on Sunday, September 6, 2026.
Speaking during his first address after returning to Sierra Leone, Koroma said he was prepared to do whatever was necessary to bring people together and move the country forward.
“I publicly commit that whatever it takes to achieve this, I will do it. I will do it openly and with an open hand,” he said.
The former president also urged people not to feel shy, embarrassed or discouraged by comments that may have been made in the past, stressing that he was returning with an open heart and welcoming everyone.
“Nobody should feel shy, should feel embarrassed, or [be discouraged by] some comments made here and there,” Koroma said.
He added that he had undertaken significant personal spiritual reflection, which had left him with an open and free mind.
“Fortunately, I have done a lot of spiritual work on myself, and my mind is open and is free. So everybody is welcome,” he said.
Koroma called on Sierra Leoneans to work together and avoid dwelling on past disagreements.
“Let us work together, and let us not look back. Let us move forward together. The past is behind us; let us all move forward together,” he said.
His remarks centred on reconciliation, openness and a commitment to collective progress as he resumed public engagement in Sierra Leone.
