Two men have been remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown over allegations of stealing dozens of air conditioners and other items from the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice building.
The accused, 24-year-old Mohamed Kamara and 24-year-old Abdul Kargbo, a labourer, appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1, where they faced three counts of conspiracy, larceny and malicious damage.
According to the particulars of the offence, the alleged incident occurred on diverse dates between 1 and 27 May 2020 at the Attorney General and Minister of Justice Building on Lamina Sankoh Street, Freetown.
The prosecution alleges that Kamara and Kargbo, together with other persons unknown, stole 48 air conditioners, 16 steel doors, 24 double-slide glass windows, three EDSA meters and other assorted items belonging to the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice.
They are also accused of maliciously damaging four wooden doors at the same premises.
The charges were read and explained to both accused persons, but no plea was taken as the matter is before the court under committal proceedings.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Eric A. Deen, who is prosecuting the matter, told the court that both accused persons had been served with copies of the case and inquiry file. The defendants admitted receiving the documents.
Magistrate Jah subsequently refused bail, citing the seriousness of the alleged offences, and remanded the two men to the Male Correctional Facility.
The matter has been adjourned to 10 September 2026 for further proceedings.
