Sierra Leone international Abu Kamara continued his impressive return to Portsmouth’s starting lineup, providing an assist as the Blues secured a 2-0 victory over Cardiff City at Fratton Park on Saturday.
The 23-year-old winger made his fifth consecutive start since returning to Portsmouth on a permanent deal, maintaining his place in manager John Mousinho’s starting XI since his return to the club.
Kamara played a key role in Portsmouth’s second goal, setting up Marko Milovanovic in the 52nd minute. The winger squared the ball into the box, allowing Milovanovic to finish from close range and double Portsmouth’s advantage.
He had earlier threatened the Cardiff defence in the 20th minute, forcing goalkeeper Nathan Trott into a save following a cross from Tyrese Shade.
Kamara also came close to getting on the scoresheet himself, producing a strong individual run that saw him beat three Cardiff defenders before his effort struck the crossbar.
Portsmouth had taken the lead in the 31st minute when Conor Shaughnessy headed home from Shade’s long throw before Milovanovic added the second early in the second half.
The victory was Portsmouth’s first home win of the season and lifted them to 13th place in the Championship table.
Kamara has enjoyed a strong connection with Portsmouth since his initial loan spell during the 2023-24 season. He made 52 appearances that campaign, scoring 10 goals and providing 11 assists as Portsmouth secured the League One title.
He subsequently joined Hull City in August 2024, making 40 appearances before spending time on loan with Spanish side Getafe.
Portsmouth completed Kamara’s permanent return on August 10, 2026, reportedly paying £2.5 million for the winger. He signed a three-year contract that will keep him at Fratton Park until 2029.
His latest performance further underlines his importance to Portsmouth as he continues to establish himself in the Championship following his permanent return.
