Four men are in police custody following an alleged attempted armed robbery at the GOAL-Sierra Leone office on Bumbuna Road in Magburaka, Tonkolili District.
The attempted robbery was reportedly foiled through the combined efforts of Sierra Leone Police officers and alert community residents.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Alieu Jalloh, Head of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), confirmed the arrests during a press briefing at the Kingtom Police Officers’ Mess on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
According to ACP Jalloh, the incident occurred on August 23 when the suspects allegedly breached the barbed-wire fence surrounding the humanitarian organisation’s premises and attempted to force open the office doors in an effort to steal valuable assets.
Their alleged plan was disrupted after a passing police patrol officer and local youths noticed the suspicious activity and raised the alarm.
A rapid-response police team was subsequently deployed to the scene, where officers secured the area and apprehended the four suspects as they allegedly prepared to load items into a waiting vehicle.
The suspects have been identified as Alimamy Kamara, the designated driver; 33-year-old Abdulai Barrie, whom police described as a known offender with previous convictions for larceny and obtaining money by false pretences; Abdul Rahman Fofanah, alias “Uncle O,” also described by police as a known offender; and Hamuday Bangura.
ACP Jalloh commended the swift response of the police patrol officers and the intelligence provided by community members, saying the operation demonstrates the importance of community vigilance and collaboration in preventing crime.
He also highlighted the role of the Police Partnership Board and grassroots communities in protecting national and humanitarian development assets.
ACP Jalloh assured the public of the Sierra Leone Police’s continued commitment to proactive policing and stronger community engagement as part of efforts to prevent crime.
The four suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
