The Approved School Sports Promoters Association (ASSPA), organisers of the ASSPA Inter-Community League, has fined City Road Community and Portee Community NLe5,000 each following incidents recorded around their Round of 16 fixture on Saturday, 12 September 2026.

In a disciplinary notice, ASSPA said it considers the incidents and the unsportsmanlike atmosphere surrounding the fixture a serious concern, stressing that the community-based competition is intended to promote unity, friendship, discipline, peaceful coexistence and healthy competition.

The Association strongly condemned the conduct attributed to supporters, players and officials of both communities, including reports of confrontational behaviour and the use or attempted use of stones and other potentially harmful objects.

ASSPA said violence, intimidation and the use of objects capable of causing injury have no place in football or community sport, stressing that stones, bottles, sticks and similar objects are strictly prohibited.

The Association maintained that no disagreement, provocation, competitive tension, or match-related frustration can justify behaviour that puts others’ safety at risk.

ASSPA also reminded community officials that their responsibilities extend beyond registered players. Officials are expected to lead by example, help maintain discipline among players, technical staff and supporters, and take reasonable measures to prevent conduct that could disrupt the peaceful organisation of matches.

The Association further issued a strict directive on access to the playing field, stating that the main designated dugout entrance is the only authorised route for entering or exiting the pitch.

Players, supporters, team officials, coaches, managers and other persons are prohibited from climbing, jumping over, passing through or otherwise breaching the perimeter fence to gain access to the playing field.

Community officials have been instructed to communicate the directive to their players, supporters and technical teams and discourage any attempt to gain unauthorised access to the pitch.
ASSPA warned that any community whose players, officials or supporters deliberately breach the directive may face further disciplinary action.

Following its review of the circumstances surrounding the incidents, the Association determined that disciplinary action was warranted.

Accordingly, City Road Community has been fined NLe5,000, while Portee Community has also been fined NLe5,000.
Both fines are to be paid within seven days from the date of issuance of the notice.

ASSPA said the sanctions are intended to reinforce its commitment to discipline, safety and proper sporting conduct as the 2026 competition progresses.

The Association has issued a final warning to all participating communities, noting that while emotions and competition are expected to intensify, they must not result in violence, intimidation, disorder or disregard for match-day regulations.

ASSPA stressed that every participating community has a responsibility to protect the reputation and integrity of the competition, adding that winning a football match can never justify putting another person’s safety at risk.
