Peace Ambassador Abubakarr S. Turay, popularly known as Shady Baby, has disclosed that no formal handover ceremony was held when he assumed the Peace Ambassador role, while describing his relationship with his predecessors and colleagues in the entertainment industry as cordial.
Speaking during a recent interview, Turay said he maintains good relations with Alhaji Amadu Bah, popularly known as Boss La or LAJ, and Kao Denero. He noted that he had congratulated one of them following an appointment and said there had been no breakdown in their relationships.
Turay also spoke about his recent communication with individuals he referred to as “Ellie” and “LAJ.” He said his last conversation with Ellie was a few months ago, while invitations from LAJ to meet on his birthday could not materialise because of travel and scheduling difficulties. Turay expressed hope that LAJ would understand the circumstances.
On his transition into the Peace Ambassador position, Turay said he appreciated the fact that his predecessor voluntarily stepped aside. He observed that transitions can become difficult when individuals refuse to relinquish positions, potentially creating institutional challenges.
Turay was appointed Peace Ambassador by President Julius Maada Bio on April 30, 2026, succeeding LAJ, who had served in the position since February 2024. The appointment was announced in a State House notice signed by Secretary to the President Barba B. Fortune.
Following the appointment, LAJ publicly congratulated Turay and wrote to President Bio expressing appreciation for the opportunity to serve as Peace Ambassador.
Since taking office, Shady Baby has begun engagements aimed at strengthening collaboration on peacebuilding and national cohesion, including a June courtesy visit to the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC).
