The Borbor Community along the Peninsula is set to benefit from a new market following the handover of land documents by the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Country Planning to the Western Area Rural District Council (WARDC).

The handover, facilitated through the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, is expected to pave the way for the construction of a designated market where traders currently operating along the Peninsula Highway can conduct their businesses.

The initiative follows a directive from President Julius Maada Bio for the identification of suitable land to provide a safer and more organised trading space for traders along the Peninsula Highway.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Deputy Minister of Lands, Housing and Country Planning, Phylis Kormoh, said the land was secured specifically for the benefit of the people of Borbor.

She cautioned against using the land for personal interests or allocating it to particular individuals or groups, stressing that it was intended to serve the wider community.

Kormoh assured the community and the Council of the Ministry’s continued technical support to ensure that the land is properly developed and used for its intended purpose.

Deputy Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs, Alfred Moi Jamiru, commended the Ministry of Lands for making the land available and advancing efforts to establish a proper trading space for the community.

The proposed market is expected to provide traders along the Peninsula Highway with a designated location for their businesses while contributing to more orderly trading and land use within the Borbor Community.
