The Budget Advocacy Network (BAN) has presented key budget priorities gathered from various women’s groups to the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs for consideration in the 2027 national budget.
The presentation was made on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the Ministry’s office on Big Waterloo Street in Freetown.
The priorities focused particularly on addressing sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and improving support services for survivors. Among the key areas highlighted were funding for a forensic laboratory, SGBV court monitoring, survivor social reintegration, safe homes, One Stop Centres, and other survivor support services.
BAN said the proposed priorities were developed from concerns raised by women’s groups and are intended to ensure that those concerns are translated into identifiable budget lines during the 2027 budget preparation process.
The advocacy group is calling for the proposed interventions to receive adequate attention and funding to strengthen efforts to prevent and respond to SGBV while improving protection and support for survivors.
