Emmerson Named Among Africa’s Top Music Artists
Sierra Leonean musician Emmerson Bockarie has been ranked among the top 30 music artists from Africa’s most prominent music-producing countries, according to data published by Globe Data.
Emmerson, who is ranked 23rd on the list, is the only Sierra Leonean artist featured among musicians representing 30 African countries.
The ranking places him alongside some of the continent’s biggest names, including South Africa’s Black Coffee, Ghana’s Sarkodie, Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz, Senegalese singer Youssou N’Dour and Nigerian-born international star Angélique Kidjo of Benin.
Emmerson is one of Sierra Leone’s best-known musicians and has built a career around socially conscious music, often addressing politics, governance and everyday challenges facing Sierra Leoneans.
Some of his popular songs include Borbor Belleh, Munku, Twelve Days, Can’t Stop Me, No Cause for Alarm, Dopeman, Cut Am, and Mighty Salone.
His song Borbor Belleh became particularly popular in Sierra Leone and established Emmerson as an artist known for combining entertainment with commentary on social and political issues.
The ranking also includes legendary African musicians such as Egypt’s Amr Diab, Cameroon’s Manu Dibango, Zimbabwe’s Oliver Mtukudzi, Mali’s Salif Keita and Guinea’s Mory Kanté.
For Sierra Leone, Emmerson’s inclusion highlights the country’s contribution to Africa’s music industry and his influence beyond the country’s borders.
