APC Flagbearer Aspirants Call for JFK’s Release Following Detention
The All People’s Congress (APC) flagbearer aspirants have expressed deep concern following the arrest and detention of prominent legal practitioner and fellow party member, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara (JFK) on the orders of the Chief Justice during a Supreme Court hearing.
The aspirants also called for his release in a joint statement issued on Friday, October 9.
JFK was detained during the hearing of a constitutional amendment challenge in the Supreme Court of Sierra Leone. Kamara, a key figure in the APC’s legal team, was taken into custody following court proceedings, prompting immediate solidarity from fellow party flagbearer aspirants.
In their official statement, the aspirants extended their heartfelt empathy, thoughts, and prayers to Kamara, his family, and his colleagues, stressing that his well-being, personal dignity, and fair treatment are of paramount importance.
While underscoring that their concerns are raised with “absolute respect for the independence of the judiciary and without prejudice to matters currently before the Court,” the group reaffirmed their commitment to the rule of law, constitutional due process, and human rights in Sierra Leone.
The aspirants called on the Supreme Court, legal practitioners, and the general public to exercise restraint and avoid any actions that could further deepen the nation’s political divide or undermine the ongoing constitutional review process. They added that the immediate release of Comrade Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara would help restore public confidence in the judiciary and advance national peace and stability.
Concluding their statement, the APC flagbearer aspirants urged party members, supporters, and citizens across Sierra Leone to remain calm, act with dignity, and stand together peacefully as the nation navigates this critical period.
