The Office of the Vice President began its defence of the Inter-MDA Football League title with a 1-0 victory over Immigration as the 2026 competition opened in Freetown.
The tournament kicked off on Saturday, 17 October, at the National Stadium Practice Field, bringing together more than 40 ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) in a competition aimed at promoting teamwork, unity and productivity among public sector workers.
According to the tournament organisers, Ron Gandy Williams scored the decisive goal to secure an opening victory for the defending champions.
Minister of Political Affairs Amara Kallon officially launched the competition alongside Minister of Sports Augusta James-Teima and National Sports Authority Executive Director Mohamed Alphaka Conteh.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, James-Teima thanked President Julius Maada Bio for supporting the initiative and encouraged participating institutions to embrace the competition’s objectives.
This year’s tournament is being held under the theme, “From the Office to the Field: Driving Peace and Productivity Through Sports.”
The Inter-MDA Football League provides public sector employees with an opportunity to build relationships beyond their official duties, using football to promote cooperation and strengthen ties among government institutions.
With more than 40 MDAs participating, the 2026 edition seeks to combine sporting competition with efforts to foster unity, teamwork and productivity across the public sector.
