Supreme Court Reschedules Hearing in Constitutional Amendment Cases to 2pm
The Supreme Court of Sierra Leone has rescheduled the direction hearing in the consolidated cases challenging Parliament’s handling of the Constitution of Sierra Leone (Amendment) Bill, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 20 October 2026.
A notice issued by the Court’s Registrar states that the hearing will take place at Court No. 1, Law Courts Building, Siaka Stevens Street, Freetown.
The notice, dated 20 October 2026, invites lawyers, plaintiffs, defendants and members of the public to witness the proceedings.
The consolidated cases involve six plaintiffs: Members of Parliament Osman Abdal Timbo, Abdul Kargbo and Daniel Koroma, the All People’s Congress (APC), Thomas Moore Conteh and Tamba Kellie.
The defendants are the Speaker of Parliament, the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, and the Clerk of Parliament. The Institute for Legal Research and Advocacy for Justice (ILRAJ) is also listed as an intended friend of the court and interested party.
The cases challenge the procedure used by Parliament to pass the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2025, particularly whether the constitutional requirement for a two-thirds majority was met.
The hearing comes amid a separate application by the Government seeking to have the consolidated cases dismissed on jurisdictional grounds.
The outcome of the proceedings could determine whether the challenges proceed to a substantive hearing on the constitutionality of Parliament’s actions.
