Njala University Academic Staff Maintain Strike Over 100% Salary Demand
The Academic Staff Association of Njala University (ASA-NU) has reaffirmed that its ongoing industrial action remains in full force, urging deans, directors of institutes and heads of departments to continue withholding their services until demands for a 100% salary increase and improved conditions of service are met.
In a letter dated October 25, 2026, addressed to the university’s deans, directors and heads of departments, the association’s executive expressed appreciation for their commitment to the collective campaign for improved staff welfare.
The association encouraged the university’s senior academic personnel to sustain their support for the industrial action, including refraining from attending meetings and participating in congregation ceremonies until the demands are addressed.
According to ASA-NU, the campaign for a 100% salary increase is a collective struggle intended to benefit the entire academic membership rather than a select group of staff.
The association also called on the deans, directors and heads of departments to uphold and strengthen the spirit of unionism, stressing the importance of solidarity among members as negotiations over salaries and conditions of service continue.
It further appealed to its members to maintain their support for the association’s executive and the University Academic Staff Association (UASA) in pursuit of their shared demands.
ASA-NU also indicated that four sister institutions remained committed to the same course, expressing confidence in the continued solidarity of the institutions involved.
Despite maintaining the industrial action, the association said it remained open to negotiations, signalling its willingness to engage in discussions towards resolving the dispute.
The latest appeal comes as the association continues to press for a 100% salary increase and improved conditions of service for academic staff at Njala University.
