Sports Minister James-Teima Calls for Greater Investment in Sierra Leone Cricket
Sports Minister Augusta James-Teima has called on the Parwani Group of Companies, the owners of Kadat, to increase investment in cricket as Sierra Leone seeks to expand the sport’s popularity and development nationwide.
The minister made the appeal on Saturday, October 24, 2026, while officially opening the Kadat-sponsored Bravely T20 Premier League at Kingtom Oval in Freetown.
Speaking at the ceremony, James-Teima described cricket as a sport close to her heart and that of President Julius Maada Bio, underscoring the importance of continued support for its development.
“Cricket is in my heart and in the heart of President Bio,” she said, urging the company to build on its existing support for the game.
The minister also commended the Cricket Sierra Leone board, describing it as “a good utilizer of funds,” and encouraged officials and other stakeholders to remain committed to developing the sport.
Parwani Group Chief Executive Officer Kishore Kumar Parwani said the company hoped to help make cricket as popular in Sierra Leone as it is in India, highlighting its ambition to support the sport’s growth.
The company’s legal representative, Pa Momoh Fofanah, praised the organisation of the league’s opening ceremony and expressed an interest in learning more about cricket.
Bravely brand ambassador and former Leone Stars striker Kei Ansu Kamara also indicated his desire to take up the sport, adding to calls for greater participation in cricket.
Cricket Sierra Leone’s board chairman and other speakers at the event similarly emphasised the need to expand the game’s reach across the country.
The Bravely T20 Premier League provides a platform for cricket competition and engagement, while the minister’s appeal highlights the importance of private-sector investment and sustained collaboration in strengthening the sport in Sierra Leone.
