Don’t Use Withheld WASSCE Results For Political Point-Scoring — Myk Berewa Warns

Director of Communications at State House, Myk Berewa, has cautioned against using the withholding of thousands of 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for political point-scoring, urging stakeholders to focus on finding solutions to examination malpractice.

Berewa made the remarks amid public reactions to reports that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) had withheld the results of thousands of candidates and flagged 169 schools over alleged examination malpractice, including collusion, possession of mobile phones and the use of unauthorised materials.

In a statement, Berewa acknowledged the need to hold pupils and school authorities accountable for examination malpractice but maintained that the ongoing debate should not overlook the investments made by President Julius Maada Bio’s administration in the education sector through the Free Quality School Education (FQSE) programme.

He argued that using the withheld results to score political points would not benefit the country, stressing that an honest national conversation should recognise the government’s investments while addressing the challenges affecting the education system.

Berewa further called on politicians, commentators and other stakeholders to move beyond criticism and propose practical solutions to curb examination malpractice, improve learning outcomes and strengthen the integrity of public examinations across the country.
