The Divisional Traffic Officer (DTO) for Tankoro Division, ASP Andrew Batilo Vandy, has intensified road safety sensitisation exercises across key locations in the division as part of ongoing efforts to promote preventive policing and reduce road traffic accidents.

On Friday, 30 October 2026, ASP Vandy led a team of traffic personnel to Gbense Market, one of the busiest commercial centres in Koidu City, where they engaged pedestrians, commercial riders, market women and other road users on essential road safety measures.

During the sensitisation exercise, pedestrians were advised to observe the basic but important road safety practice of looking left and right before crossing the road. They were also warned against using mobile phones while walking along busy streets, as such distractions can cause inattentiveness and increase the risk of accidents.

Motorcycle riders were also reminded of their responsibility to protect themselves and other road users. They were warned against over-speeding, overloading and riding under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The traffic team further emphasised the importance of respecting road signs, observing zebra crossings and giving pedestrians priority when using the roads.

The exercise attracted positive reactions from market women and other members of the public in Gbense. Some expressed appreciation for the police initiative, describing preventive policing and public education as important approaches to promoting community safety. They commended the traffic team for taking road safety messages directly to the people and pledged to put the lessons learnt into practice.

Following the engagement at Gbense Market, the team extended the sensitisation exercise to Koeyor Park, where similar messages were delivered to road users and commercial transport operators.

The campaign also covered Yardu Road and Kwakor Parks, further extending road safety awareness to other busy locations within Tankoro Division.

The initiative reflects the commitment of the Tankoro Police Division, under the leadership of its Local Unit Commander, Dr Sahr (Nyuma), CSP, to strengthening preventive policing through community engagement, public education and proactive safety measures.

As road safety remains a shared responsibility, members of the public, including pedestrians, drivers and motorcycle riders, are encouraged to take traffic regulations seriously and make responsible decisions whenever they use the roads.

The message is simple: Road safety begins with you. Be alert, obey traffic rules and help save lives.
