Monime Unveils Dash, Making Bank-Based Payments Easier for Sierra Leoneans
Sierra Leone’s digital payments sector has received a boost following the launch of Dash, a new mobile payment application developed by local payment infrastructure company Monime, designed to enable users to send, receive and make payments directly from their bank accounts using their mobile phones.
Launched on Saturday, 7 November 2026, in Freetown, Dash introduces a simplified payment system that allows users to receive money using a unique identifier known as a DashTag, eliminating the need to share lengthy bank account numbers when receiving funds.
Through the DashTag system, each user can claim a unique name to receive payments. Instead of providing their bank account details, users can simply share their DashTag with the sender, who can use it to transfer money directly into the recipient’s linked bank account. The system also offers an added layer of privacy by reducing the need to disclose personal banking information.
Unlike conventional digital wallets, Dash does not hold customers’ funds or operate as a bank. Rather, it serves as a payment platform that connects users to their existing bank accounts, ensuring that their money remains with their respective financial institutions.

Once linked to a participating bank, users can send money to other Dash users, mobile money wallets and bank accounts. Transactions are authorised directly by customers through their mobile phones, without requiring them to maintain a separate balance on the application.
The platform also incorporates a payment destination verification feature designed to alert users when a recipient cannot be reached before a transaction is authorised, helping to minimise failed payments.
Beyond individual money transfers, Dash is expanding access to digital payments for businesses and consumers through a partnership with Afrimoney. The arrangement enables Dash users to make payments at more than 2,500 merchant locations nationwide, with funds deducted directly from their bank accounts.
The partnership is expected to provide participating businesses with another channel for receiving payments while giving customers greater flexibility in making everyday purchases without first transferring money into a separate mobile wallet.
Dash also introduces a feature called Dots, which allows businesses to integrate their services directly into the application, enabling customers to access services and complete payments without leaving the platform.
At launch, users can access services including Seacoach travel ticket purchases, internet service payments and WATU payments. The feature also allows businesses to reach Dash users, with customers’ personal information shared only with their consent.

Speaking at the launch, Monime Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Sorieba Daffae, said the platform was developed to address the difficulties people face when trying to conveniently access and use money held in their bank accounts.
“For most people, the bank account has been the safest place to keep money and the hardest place to use it. Dash changes that. Your money stays in your bank. We simply make it move when you want it to. A name is now enough to get paid, and every business in the country can now meet customers who carry their bank in their pocket,” Daffae said.
Dash builds on Monime’s existing payment infrastructure, which is already used by businesses, fintech companies and large enterprises across Sierra Leone to collect and process payments through a single connection to banks, mobile money services and card networks.
Monime operates as a payment aggregator, providing payment connectivity and transaction management services to businesses and institutions. The launch of Dash marks an expansion of the company’s operations into direct digital payment services for individual consumers and businesses.

The application is currently available for download on Google Play, with its release on the Apple App Store expected soon.

The launch introduces another option in Sierra Leone’s growing digital payments sector, with Dash seeking to make bank-based transactions more accessible through simplified money transfers, merchant payments and integrated business services.
