The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Sierra Leone Parliament, chaired by Deputy Speaker Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, has commended VIP Group of Companies for demonstrating exceptional patience, commitment and dedication to national service despite supplying rice to the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) for seven consecutive months without receiving payment from the government.

The commendation came during a parliamentary hearing held on Friday, 6th November 2026, when the Committee summoned representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the Sierra Leone Police leadership and VIP Sierra Leone Limited to examine the circumstances surrounding the prolonged non-payment and disruption in rice supplies to police personnel.

During the hearing, the Committee established that VIP had continued supplying rice to the Police from January to July 2026, despite outstanding payments and the enormous financial burden associated with sustaining such a critical national obligation.

The Committee acknowledged the company’s remarkable patience and sacrifice, describing its decision to prioritise the welfare of police personnel over immediate financial considerations as a commendable demonstration of commitment to national service.

PAC Chairman Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh subsequently assured the company that the Committee would follow up with the Ministry of Finance to facilitate the settlement of the outstanding payments.

The development has brought renewed attention to the government’s financial obligations to essential service providers and the need for timely payments to prevent disruptions in the welfare and operational effectiveness of national security institutions.

For VIP Group of Companies, Parliament’s recognition underscores the importance of honouring contractual obligations while acknowledging the sacrifices made by private businesses in sustaining critical public services under difficult financial circumstances.
