A labourer, John Marrah, has appeared before Pademba Road Court No. 1 on charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and burglary and larceny following an alleged break-in at a residence in New England Ville, Freetown.

Marrah made his first appearance on Thursday before Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah, where he was charged under Sections 25(1) and 13(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the prosecution, the alleged incident occurred on 29 October 2026 at Mount Carmel, New England Ville, where Marrah is accused of conspiring with other individuals, who are currently at large, to commit burglary and larceny.

The second count alleges that Marrah broke into the dwelling house of Dawdius During with intent to steal, and allegedly made away with a Samsung Galaxy A16 mobile phone and a Dell laptop valued at a combined NLe13,000.

When the charges were read and explained to the accused, no plea was taken, as the matter is before the court for committal proceedings.

Prosecutor Inspector Kadie Taylor informed the court that she had served Marrah with copies of the case and inquiry file. The accused, who was not legally represented, acknowledged receipt of the documents.

Magistrate Jah refused bail, citing the seriousness of the alleged offences. However, Marrah remains presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.

The matter was adjourned to 10 November 2026 for further proceedings.
