Meet our first Woman Crush for the month of June – Eugenia Kargbo

Eugenia Kargbo is one among many and first of her kind! She holds a special position that oversees the effect on her people. Meet the Chief Heat Officer of Sierra Leone and the first person to be appointed into the position in Africa, Eugenia Kargbo. Her duty is to shield her city from the dangerous effects of climate change.

Eugenia has over 10 years’ top-tier experience in diverse sectors – Sanitation, entrepreneurship, human resource management, data analysis and emergency response.

Her professional career started in the banking industry in 2011 at the United Bank for Africa (UBA) as a Customer Service Officer, where she accelerated to a senior management position “Relationship Manager” within three (3) years.

An assimilation of expert knowledge at the Presidential Delivery Unit as a Data Analyst, Human Resource Officer at the National Protected Area Authority, Sanitation Sector Lead at the Mayor’s Delivery Unit and Freetown’s focal person for waste management on C40 cities waste network, abetted her in implementing and delivering key deliverables of the Freetown City Council Covid-19 Response Project “EU Stands with Salone” as Project Lead.

She is the Sanitation Lead at the Mayors Delivery Unit – Freetown City Council. Eugenia’s primary role is to provide technical assistance to Freetown City Council’s Sanitation department; to ensure the attainment of strategic targets and milestones of the Sanitation sector.

Eugenia’s passion to ensure that youths are connected to employment opportunities informed her decision in creating a youth employment networking platform.

She developed an online platform called NetworkMe SL. NetworkMe SL is a skills development platform geared towards empowering youth in Sierra Leone. The platform provided an opportunity for young and skilled youth to meet employers and access training opportunities.  Her creative innovation saw the employment of over 89 youth in different works of life within the Freetown municipality.

As part of her community driven initiatives, Eugenia Kargbo is also offering voluntary support at Eagle’s Eye SL(EESL), an organization that seeks employment opportunities for unskilled residents within deprived communities. Mrs. Kargbo have in the past years helped in securing 67 employment opportunities for local residents.

She was named to the TIME 100 Next list of rising stars in 2022.
