Freetown City Council Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has recently served as a guest lecturer at Fourah Bay College Biological Sciences Final Year Environmental Health and Science class.

The Mayor was invited by Dr Njai, Lecturer of Fourah Bay College to share with them her transform Freetown vision.

The rationale behind the invitation is for the Final year students to have first hand experience about the significance of the field of study, threats to our environment, the nexus of practical environmental challenges facing Freetown and the Transform Freetown initiative.

At the core of Transform Freetown Initiative is building, 1) Resilience, 2) Human Development, 3) Healthy City, and 4) Urban Mobility.

Mayor’s call for heightened environmental action linking theory and practice resonated with students, and aligns with real life experiential learning approach for students.

Dr Injai and the students expressed many thanks to Mayor Yvonne, who was eloquent, vivacious, knowledgeable, and full of passion about Freetown and future of the environment.

Dr Njai was recently Honored by Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS), Sierra Leone for technical excellence and leadership as a technical advisor at Directorate of Health Securities and Emergencies (DHSE).

He believes he is  not one that cares much about awards. However, he is just humbled and happy to see that his technical contributions towards Public Health Systems Strengthening are making a difference.
