Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, has approved the use of the New City Hall Auditorium for the funeral service of Akmed Sidi Kamara Jr., popularly known as Black Coffee.

The funeral service is scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 8, 2025 after his sudden demise due to Mpox disease.

According to Aki-Sawyerr, the venue was made available after requests from thousands of Sierra Leoneans, including the deceased Black Coffee’s father, who wanted a public space to host the funeral service.

Black Coffee was known for his humanitarian work in supporting drug addicts. He preaches against kush and other harmful drugs, helping addicts recovers. His death has led to tributes from youth and others across the city.

The Mayor in her approval message on social media, also reminded residents to take health precautions to prevent themselves from Mpox.

Due to his love for humanity when alive, sympathisers have come together to organize funeral materials, such as banners and key holders.
