Abubakarr Turay together with his wife, Fatmata Bangura and their daughter, Kadiatu Turay, have been granted $20,000 bail with two sureties after appearing before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Freetown Magistrate Court No.1 for alleged stealing $7,000 while serving as caretakers at the residence of complainant Leone Stars player, Kei Kamara.
The accused persons are facing charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and larceny under the Larceny Act of 1916.
During their arraignment, Abubakarr Turay pleaded not guilty, while Fatmata Bangura and Kadiatu Turay admitted to the offense.
According to the prosecution, the alleged theft took place on January 15, 2025, at Fadika Drive, Hill Station, Freetown. At the latest hearing, prosecution witness Musa Koroma, a businessman, provided key Testimony.
Koroma testified that after the accused were taken into custody he visited the police station to question Fatmata Bangura about the missing money. She reportedly suggested they return home.
Koroma then accompanied Fatmata and Kadiatu to Kai Kamara’s apartment but decided to search their residence first. At the entrance, Fatmata allegedly pulled out $600 wrapped in a black plastic bag. claiming her husband, Abubakarr Turay, had given it to her.
Following this discovery, Koroma returned both Fatmata and Kadiatu to the police station and confronted Abubakarr, who denied any knowledge of the stolen money or his wife’s claims.
After reviewing the case, Magistrate Kekura granted bail to the accused and adjourned the matter to March 5, 2025, for further proceedings.
