A housebreaking case took a new turn when a young man appearing before a Freetown magistrate told the court he took bitter kola and a pair of slippers from a residence, according to testimony presented in court.
Alpha Kamara appeared before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 2 on allegations of housebreaking and larceny.
According to the charge, Kamara allegedly entered Ishmael Kuyated’s residence on Garrison Street on June 29, 2026, intending to steal.
The prosecution alleges that half a bag of bitter kola valued at Le7,500, a pair of white slippers valued at Le50,000, and an electric extension cord valued at Le150 were taken. The individual figures amount to Le57,650.
Kamara did not enter a plea when the charge was read and explained to him.
During the hearing, Police Prosecutor D.S.P. Conteh called Detective Sergeant Mohamed Fofanah of the Central Police Station Exhibit Store.
Fofanah testified that he received and recorded an old pair of slippers allegedly associated with the case. The item was later presented in court and admitted as Exhibit F.
Kamara told the court that he had previously worked for Kuyated fetching water. He said he entered the residence after its door opened unexpectedly.
He acknowledged taking bitter kola from a bag inside the house and said he intended to sell it. He also admitted taking the slippers, explaining that his own pair had become worn out.
Kamara acknowledged that the slippers belonged to someone else.
After the proceedings, Magistrate Fornah ordered Kamara to remain at the Male Correctional Centre.
The court adjourned the matter to Aug. 20, 2026, for further proceed.
