Police at the Criminal Investigation Department in Kenema are currently investigating the town chief of Kambema village, Dama chiefdom who reported himself at their headquarters for allegedly killing his brother in September this year in a bush.

According to the Regional Crime officer east, Sergent Lansana Jajua, on the 13th of November, 2021 the town chief Kannie Musa Juhu handed himself over to them together with a shotgun and confessed to have been responsible for the death of one Vandi Konneh.

On the 3rd of September 2021, people of the Kambema community reported an alleged killing to the regional crime office in Kenema cause the police to open a murder investigation but had made no arrest until the two chief voluntary arrived at their station and confessed to the killing.

The regional police media officer, Sergeant Prince Bernard Jayboi Kamara, told Politico that the suspect revealed that he mistakenly shot the deceased Vandi Konneh with the shotgun while hunting animals. He said he saw the object from a distance which he thought to be a monkey, adding that he only realized that it was a human being when he rushed to the scene to collect what he had shot. He then identified the person to be Vandi Konneh, a brother from the same village.

Sgt. Kamara said the case file has been sent to the state counsel for legal advice, while the suspect and exhibit are in police custody.

Politico News reported that, the killing happened at a time when two neighbouring chiefdoms, Dama and Gaura in Kenema district were locked in a land dispute with Kambema village at the center. Many in the area attributed the death of Konneh to the land dispute but the two paramount chiefs have asked the police to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.
