The Regional Criminal Investigation Department (CID) South has arrested four suspects in connection with the alleged murder of a young man, Gilo Simenda, following an “after BECE” entertainment event in Gerehun Town, Baoma Chiefdom, Bo District.
The suspects were arrested on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, during intelligence-led operations conducted by police as part of ongoing investigations into the incident. According to police sources, the arrests followed the gathering of credible information linking the suspects to the alleged killing.
Simenda reportedly sustained multiple stab wounds during the entertainment event held at the Roman Catholic (R.C.) Boys School Hall in Gerehun Town. He was later confirmed dead, prompting concern among residents across Baoma Chiefdom.
All four suspects are currently being held at the Regional CID South headquarters in Bo, where they are assisting investigators.
Regional Crime Officer South, Mr Jabaty, confirmed that investigations have reached an advanced stage and that further inquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged murder.
He appealed to the public to remain calm and allow the police to conduct a professional and thorough investigation. He also urged anyone with relevant information to cooperate with law enforcement and warned against any form of mob justice.
Meanwhile, the Paramount Chief of Baoma Chiefdom, Alfred Hondowa Demby V, expressed concern over what he described as increasing indiscipline among some youths in the chiefdom.
He suggested that clique-related activities and substance abuse could be contributing factors behind such incidents, though he did not directly link the arrested suspects to those allegations.
The Paramount Chief called on residents and local authorities to support the police by providing any information that could assist the investigation and help identify any other persons who may be connected to the incident.
The Sierra Leone Police has also encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station as investigations continue.
Residents who spoke to the press on condition of anonymity claimed that the incident may have arisen from a confrontation between two rival clique groups allegedly known as the Blue-Black Movement and the Red Flag Movement. However, police have not officially confirmed that claim.
Before his death, Gilo Simenda was a native of Kalia Community in Kakua Chiefdom, Bo District. The investigation remains ongoing.
