The Head of Elections for the Sierra Leone Police East, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Edna Silva has on the 28th January 2024 called for Transparent, Credible, and Peaceful Paramount Chieftaincy Declaration in Joru Town, Gaura Chiefdom, Kenema District..

She Emphasized the importance of transparency, credibility, and peaceful elections as well as maintaining the peace and stability with communities which is key. She called upon all stakeholders to uphold transparency at every stage of any electoral process, from voter registration to the announcement of results, which, she said, would lesson the burden on law enforcement agencies in terms of public order management, crowd control and conflict intervention.

She urged all stakeholders, including would-be candidates, and their supporters, to engage in peaceful dialogue and maintain a respectful and dignified approach to emerging issues, as they arises in their different capacities.

The Declaration Exercise progressed peacefully, under the watch of the Local Unit Commander, CSP Murana M. Kamara,  who, prior to the commencement of the declaration exercise, instructed his Operations Officer, Inspector Mohamed Corneh (Insp. 500) and the O/C OSD; Insp. Foday Saffa, to professionally deploy personnel in and within the said Barry.

Seven out of the 9 contenders for the Paramount chieftaincy were declared fit to aspire for the pending February, 10th Elections who are,Chief Alfred Robert Mendegla, Sandi Muslim Koroma Gbatekaka, Prince Bockarie Koroma Gbatekaka, Musa Foday Bockarie Bakoi, Alhaji Mohamed Wattu Gbatekaka, Hawa Gbandia Sama-Bunduka, Prince Bockarie Kallon respectively wherein Lansana Lahai Bunduka and Foday Sama Bunduka (sugar sugar) were disqualified.
