The Ministry of Health, through its Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Programme, has rolled out a hygiene drive aimed at creating safe working environments across the health sector with a cleaning exercise at the Youyi Building in Freetown and other health facilities and offices nationwide.
The exercise, led by IPC Programme Manager Nana Fofanah, with support from the Director of Support Services and Ministry cleaning staff, covered the ground floor through to the fourth floor of the Youyi Building, where the Health Ministry is housed.
The team thoroughly cleaned and scrubbed key areas of the building, including staircases, front and rear entrances, corridors and pillars, among other high-traffic areas.
According to the Ministry, the exercise was conducted using locally produced disinfectant as part of efforts to strengthen infection prevention and control measures within public health facilities and offices.
The Ministry said the intervention has improved the hygiene and cleanliness of the Youyi Building, providing a safer and cleaner environment for staff, visitors and other users of the facility.
The cleaning exercise was also replicated across the country, including the Eastern, Western, Northern, North Western and Western Rural regions. District IPC teams and District Health Management Teams (DHMTs) supported the implementation of the exercise in their respective areas.
The Ministry of Health said the nationwide initiative forms part of its broader commitment to strengthening infection prevention and control practices while promoting clean, safe and healthy working environments across Sierra Leone’s health sector.
