As part of its ongoing commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainable community development, the Orange Sierra Leone Foundation, in collaboration with the UBA Foundation and the Mama-Pikin Foundation, has successfully refurbished a maternal health facility in York Village, Western Rural District.

The upgraded labour ward and post-natal clinic, commissioned on 28 May 2026, represent a strategic investment in improving access to quality maternal and neonatal healthcare services. The facility is now equipped with essential modern medical infrastructure, including delivery beds, post-natal beds, an oxygen machine, and other critical equipment aimed at enhancing service delivery and patient outcomes.

In her statement during the handing-over ceremony, the Director of the Orange Sierra Leone Foundation, Annie Wonnie Katta, explained that the project was informed by a needs assessment conducted in October 2025 by the Orange Foundation, which identified urgent infrastructure and equipment deficiencies. In response, the Orange Sierra Leone Foundation mobilised strategic partnerships, formalising a collaboration with the UBA Foundation in February 2026 to deliver this high-impact intervention.

Orange Sierra Leone CEO, Aicha Touré, highlighted the company’s commitment to improving lives through impactful community investments, particularly in healthcare.

Similarly, UBA Sierra Leone CEO, Mohamed Alhajie Samoura, described the project as a meaningful investment in the women of York. He revealed that UBA dedicates 1% of its annual profits to community development, with healthcare as a key priority.

Delivering the keynote address, the District Medical Officer, Dr. Prince Masuba, commended the partners, describing the intervention as a timely contribution that will significantly strengthen maternal and child healthcare services in the district.

The Mama-Pikin Foundation, with a longstanding presence in maternal and child health since 2008, continues to play a key role in supporting service delivery and ensuring improved health outcomes for women and children in the York community.

Local stakeholders have welcomed the intervention, recognising its potential to significantly improve maternal and neonatal care. Community health authorities have also reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the facility and ensuring its effective utilisation.

This project highlights Orange Sierra Leone’s dedication to delivering meaningful CSR initiatives that create lasting social impact. Together with its partners, Orange Sierra Leone remains committed to advancing inclusive development and improving the health and well-being of communities across Sierra Leone.
