The North America Branch of the Pujehun District Descendants Association (PDDA) has donated 28 hospital mattresses and matching sets of bed linens to Pujehun Government Hospital to improve patient comfort and support healthcare delivery in the district.

The donation was presented to the hospital’s management during a handover ceremony on October 12, 2026. The initiative was facilitated by PDDA’s local representative, Madam Judith Lahai, as part of the association’s efforts to support healthcare and community development in Pujehun District.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Madam Judith Lahai emphasized that the initiative reflects PDDA North America’s longstanding dedication to supporting key sectors in the region.

“This donation is part of our association’s commitment to supporting the district’s healthcare system. This is not the first time we are providing support for the hospital and other sectors within the district,” Madam Lahai noted, while issuing a passionate call to action. “I call on other stakeholders, diaspora groups, and organizations from Pujehun District to also step forward and help meet our district’s pressing needs.”

Receiving the items on behalf of the institution, Medical Superintendent Dr. Momoh Nyallay expressed deep appreciation to the PDDA North America leadership and its membership for their continuous interventions.

Dr. Nyallay highlighted that PDDA North America has proven to be an indispensable ally over the years, contributing across various departments to enhance quality care.

“PDDA North America is a reliable partner committed to making a meaningful impact in this district,” Dr. Nyallay remarked. “This latest contribution of 28 mattresses and linens joins a long history of support we have received from them. We call on other indigenes and community organizations to emulate this remarkable example by contributing to public institutions back home.”

Addressing the gathering, the President of Nurses in Pujehun District, Madam Margaret Jajuah, welcomed the donation as a much-needed relief for both staff and patients.

Madam Jajuah disclosed that a shortage of quality bedding had long posed a severe challenge to daily operations, with many older mattresses deteriorating significantly over time and creating unsuitable conditions for patient recovery.

“This is a truly timely intervention,” Madam Jajuah stated. “Many of the mattresses previously used had worn out over the years, leaving some beds in conditions unbefitting for our patients. This contribution will significantly improve patient comfort and the overall standards of care at Pujehun Government Hospital.”

The contribution by PDDA North America underscores the crucial role played by diaspora associations in supplementing public healthcare infrastructure in rural Sierra Leone, setting a benchmark for civic responsibility and regional development.
