The Sierra Leone Police is accused of firing tear gas at civilians on Mercer Street by Fourah Bay Road, causing serious harm to residents in the eastern part of Freetown.

Eyewitnesses claim that the police arrived to arrest individuals known as “kush boys,” but the situation escalated into chaos as tear gas was reportedly fired indiscriminately at people’s compounds. This aggressive action resulted in the arrest of several residents in the area.

The witnesses further allege that among those detained at the Eastern Police Station are innocent individuals who were not involved in any criminal activities.

The incident has sparked outrage within the community, raising questions about the use of force and the potential impact on innocent bystanders. Concerns about police actions and the well-being of those detained are growing, prompting calls for an investigation into the incident and accountability for any undue harm caused to civilians.
